This is definitely not a smart move from our beloved Real Madrid if we are to believe reports claiming Real Madrid are considering selling left-back Ferland Mendy this summer.
According to media outlet Defensa Central via The Hard Tackle, Real Madrid are weighing up the prospect of cashing in on 26-year-old Mendy following Antonio Rudiger’s arrival from Chelsea on a free transfer.
Mendy has established himself as first-choice left-back at Real Madrid, displacing club legend Marcelo, since joining from French club Lyon in 2019.
However, following the arrival of Rudiger, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to install Eder Militao and Rudiger as the first-choice central defensive pairing.
As a result, David Alaba will move out to the left-back berth, leaving Mendy in limbo in the 2022/23 season.
Ancelotti hopes to try out his new backline of Rudiger and Militao as centre-backs and Alaba as left-back during pre-season and if convinced, will reportedly give Real Madrid the greenlight to sell Mendy this summer with the club signing a cost-effective replacement like Fran Garcia.
The former La Fabrica graduate is reportedly closing in on returning to Real Madrid, and his signing will enable Los Blancos to cash in on Mendy in the summer transfer window.
Since joining Real Madrid in 2019, Mendy has made 105 appearances, scoring 5 goals and providing 9 assists.
