Antonio Rudiger has been officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player following his free transfer from Premier League side Chelsea.
The German opted to take on the famous white shirt of Real Madrid after his Chelsea contract expired this summer.
The centre-back has agreed a four-year deal at the Bernabeu after leaving the Blues at the end of his contract.
Real Madrid confirmed the transfer over two weeks ago, but Rudiger has been away on international duty with Germany so has only now been able to arrive in Madrid to be presented to the media at the club’s training complex.
Ridiger will wear the No.22 shirt at Real Madrid following his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu.
His shirt number follows a familiar theme for the 29-year-old centre-half, as he was previously No 2 at Chelsea.
Rudiger inherits the No.22 shirt from Isco, who has left Real Madrid this summer as a free agent after winning four Champions League with Real Madrid.
The shirt was also donned by Argentine forward Angel Di Maria between 2010 and 2015 before his transfer to Premier League side Manchester United.
Former Spain international and World Cup winner Xabi Alonso wore 22 in 2009-10, while back in the late 1990s former France international Christian Karembeu had the No 22 on his back during a productive stint in Madrid.
Earlier in the day, the 29-year-old completed his medical at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital.
“It’s a very special day for all of us, but especially for me,” the defender told reporters at his unveiling.
“I would like to thank my parents, because without them I could not be here. They have always supported me and that throughout my life has been very very important.
“I also want to thank the president of Real Madrid for giving me the opportunity to play for this great club.
“I can promise you that I will give everything for this club. I want to win as many titles as we can. Hala Madrid and nothing else!”
