Real Madrid are open to selling Marco Asensio this summer with the Spain international having just one year left on his contract.
The Spanish international was Real Madrid’s third-highest scorer this past season with 12 goals in 42 appearances.
But Asensio’s status as a rotation option for Carlo Ancelotti has forced him to consider his future at the Santiago Bernabeu. Such a situation has captured the attention of Liverpool.
Premier League side Liverpool and Italian champions AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing the 26 year old attacking midfielder.
Asensio features high on the shortlist of Jurgen Klopp, despite Liverpool having already signed Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez.
However, AC Milan are believed to be a more likely destination for Asensio provided the Italian champions can meet Real Madrid’s asking price.
According to AS, Real Madrid have told interested clubs for Asensio that they must pay €40million for the 26 year old.
Asensio has admitted there’s a possibility he will leave this summer.
Asensio told reporters while on international duty: “I have one year left on my contract. Now, I am focused on the national team.
“When this is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. I think there are possibilities.
“There is also the option to stay and fulfil my contract year.
“Rumors are part of football, and more so at Real Madrid. High-level players are always associated with it. It’s something we have to live with.”
Marco Asensio also feels he could’ve played more last season for Real Madrid.
He told AS: “Personally, I’m not disappointed because I know I’ve given my all this year.
“In the end, there are things that don’t depend on me and that I can’t control. But what does depend on me and what I have controlled, I have done well. I have tried to give the maximum, the best of me, to win these titles this season.
“That’s why I’m not disappointed. When I have been given the opportunity, I have taken it. I have given 100% and that is what counts. That has pleased me.
“In the end, that’s what continuity gives you. There have been three or four months when I’ve had it but I don’t want to stop there.
“Confidence is very important for a player, to know that in a season you can play in 40 or 50 games and that gives you a lot in terms of confidence, in terms of demanding from yourself. In numbers and in helping the team. That’s what I value personally and that’s what we’ll have to see…”
