Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz has asked to leave Real Madrid this summer, according to media outlet AS.

Mariano Diaz had several offers to leave Real Madrid last summer but he opted to instead remain at the club.

The striker returned to Real in 2018 for €23million after a successful year at Lyon but has started just 12 La Liga games over the past four years.

He has featured in a total of 59 games for Real Madrid since 2018, scoring just 7 goals.

Injury problems and having Karim Benzema in front of him in pecking order has limited the chances of Mariano Diaz.

With one year left on his contract, Mariano Díaz has made it clear he wants to leave Real Madrid this summer.

While losing Mariano would not be the biggest blow to Carlo Ancelotti, the problem is that he is not the only senior striker looking for a fresh start.

Serbian striker Luka Jovic is also keen on leaving Real Madrid this summer with Italian side Fiorentina in talks to sign him on a season-long loan deal.

Jovic, just like Mariano, has failed to make an impact since joining Real Madrid.

The €60million signing from Eintracht Frankfurt has scored just three goals in 51 appearances in all competition since joining Real Madrid in 2019.

Borja Mayoral is also set to leave when he returns from his loan with Getafe as he enters the final year of his own contract.

With all three strikers keen on leaving this summer, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti will be without a senior backup for Benzema, who will turn 35 in December.

It has been suggested Real Madrid Castilla striker Juanmi Latasa could be the backup for Benzema next season.

The 21-year-old netted 13 goals in 30 games for Real Madrid Castilla last season and was rewarded with a senior debut late last year.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could seek to sign another attacker this summer as backup to Benzema.

However, any signing made this summer must be an EU player as the three non-EU slots in the Real Madrid squad have been currently assigned to Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao and Rodrygo.

This was the reason why Real Madrid was unable to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City this summer.
