Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti apologised to Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos after the conclusion of last season.
This is according to the midfielder himself, who claimed Ancelotti apologised for not giving him enough game-time last season.
“Carlo Ancelotti told me to forgive him because I didn’t play the minutes that I should have played,” Dani Ceballos has told Deportes Cuatro.
Ceballos only played 338 minutes in 18 games all season, although his importance to the team grew towards the end of the 2021/22 season.
He was sixth-choice in midfield for Real Madrid last season. He was behind Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga in pecking order.
Having struggled for game time under coach Ancelotti last season, the Real Madrid midfielder revealed he will speak to the Italian before deciding his future.
“When we start [pre-season on July 8], we will see,” the Real Madrid midfielder said.
“I’ll talk to the coach to see what he wants and from there we’ll decide the future.”
In April, Ancelotti acknowledged in a press conference that Ceballos was not given the chances he deserved.
“Ceballos has not played the minutes he deserved based on his training sessions,” Ancelotti said during a press conference.
“He is one of the few who has played less than he deserves. He has suffered a lot, a season with problems, with the injury and a fairly slow recovery.”
Ceballos, whose contract with Real Madrid ends in 2023, is attracting interest from Real Betis.
Real Betis left-back Juan Miranda has urged Ceballos to leave Real Madrid for Real Betis this summer.
“My offer of a house in Olivares has already been made…. I can’t do any more!” joked Juan Miranda to Cuatro about the possibility of Ceballos signing for Betis.
“I hope that in the future Ceballos will come to Betis.”
