20 year old Real Madrid forward Reinier has told the club he wants to join Portuguese club Benfica.
The Brazilian playmaker has spent the last two seasons in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, but managed just one goal through 39 appearances there and is now looking for a new challenge.
Real Madrid already have several offers on the table for Reinier but the 20 year old Brazilian only wants to join Benfica.
Despite Reinier’s preference to join Benfica, no agreement has been reached between Real Madrid and Benfica for his transfer.
According to Goal, while Benfica are eager to sign Reinier, they are unwilling to pay the full loan fee of €3 million currently being demanded by Madrid.
Benfica are hoping that the promise of regular game time for Reinier in Portugal will work in their favour.
Reinier joined Real Madrid from Brazilian club Flamengo for €35 million (£30m/$39m) in January 2020, but spent several months in Spain without playing any competitive football.
A two-year loan at Dortmund was supposed to aid his development, but opportunities there proved to be in short supply.
Benfica also reportedly want to sign Reinier on loan for a season with a purchase plan of about €15million.
However, Real Madrid still believe in Reinier’s potential and are reluctant to add a purchase option to any loan deal.
It is expected that an official announcement on his immediate future will be made in the next few days – potentially by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is a huge fan of Chelsea right-back Reece James and wants to bring the England international to the Bernabeu.
The 22 year old is an attacking right-back and has all the qualities to be a Real Madrid player.
Despite being a key player in the Chelsea squad, James earns around £70,000 a week at Chelsea.
James’ contract situation at Chelsea has caught the eyes of Real Madrid president Perez, who believes the England international is underpaid at Chelsea.
Perez is reportedly ready to pay the Chelsea star three times his current salary to dump Stamford Bridge for the Bernabeu.
Perez sees the 22 year old James as the perfect player to replace Daniel Carvajal in the Real Madrid squad.
