Premier League club Newcastle United have submitted a bid for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Marco Asensio, according to Caught Offside.
Asensio has just one year left on his Real Madrid contract and the 26 year old Spain international is keen on leaving the Bernabeu this summer.
Asensio reportedly wants to join a team where he would be a guaranteed starter, something he hasn’t been able to achieve at Real Madrid despite his quality.
Newcastle United have made an opening offer of around €25million for Asensio, who has also been linked with the likes of Arsenal and AC Milan in recent weeks.
While Real Madrid are open to selling Asensio this summer to avoid losing the attacking midfielder for free next summer, it’s yet to be seen if the offer from Newcastle United will be accepted.
Newcastle have signed plenty of big names under their wealthy new owners, and Asensio would be another major statement of intent from the club.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has no plans for Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz next season, according to media outlet AS.
Mariano Diaz has struggled to make an impact since returning to Real Madrid from Lyon in 2018.
Despite losing Luka Jovic to Fiorentina, Ancelotti reportedly doesn’t intend to use Mariano Diaz as back-up to first-choice striker Karim Benzema next season.
Carlo Ancelotti reportedly prefers Borja Mayoral, who spent the second-half of last season on loan at Getafe, where he he scored 6 goals in 18 appearances.
