Real Madrid are set to beat rivals Barcelona to the signing of talented 17 year old winger Alvaro Leiva, according to Marca.
Real Madrid first made contact with the third division side Algeciras months ago for the transfer of the winger but only reached an agreement this week.
La Liga rivals Barcelona also made a move for the talented winger but Leiva made it clear that he only wanted to play for Real Madrid.
After months of negotiation between Real Madrid and Algeciras, the transfer is now close to being completed. Leiva’s desire to play for Real Madrid was key in forcing an agreement.
Despite being just a teenager, Leiva was a regular all season for Algeciras in the third tier of Spanish football, playing 38 times in his first full professional season. He also scored 4 times and added 2 assists, sometimes playing as a forward.
Leiva will be a second signing for Real Madrid B team this summer following the arrival of striker Noel López.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have set a new €50m asking price for Spanish international Marco Asensio, according to media outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The 26 year old made 19 starts and 12 substitute appearances for Real Madrid in the La Liga last season, scoring 10 goals.
Asensio has just one year left on his contract and is keen on leaving the club this summer as he wants regular football at this stage in his career.
As per reports from Mundo Deportivo, Los Blancos are prepared to listen to offers for the Mallorcan born attacking midfielder, provided interested clubs meet the current valuation of the 26-year-old.
Premier League sides Newcastle United and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing the Real attacking midfielder. Italian champions AC Milan are also interested in the 26 year old.
