Real Madrid have completed the signing of 17 year old winger Alvaro Leiva from Algeciras.
La Liga rivals Barcelona made a move for the talented winger but Alvaro Leiva made it clear that he only wanted to play for Real Madrid.
Algeciras have now confirmed the transfer: “Algeciras and Real Madrid have agreed on the transfer of our young player Alvaro Leiva.
“We wish you the best of luck in your professional career. You will always be one of us.”
A statement on their website read: “Álvaro Leiva Alemany, the jewel of the Algeciras CF academy, ends his time at the Algeciras club to continue his sporting career at Real Madrid. The 17-year-old footballer signed this morning his contract with the Madrid team, which has reached an agreement with Algeciras CF to formalize his transfer.
“Leiva has played throughout his youth career in clubs in the city of Algeciras, arriving at Algeciras CF in his youth stage. Since then, his progression has been really positive, becoming part of the first team and competing in 1RFEF during the 2021/22 season. In this past campaign, he was one of the most outstanding players in the squad, in which he scored four goals.
“From Algeciras CF we can only wish the young footballer all the luck in the world so that he continues to progress and reaches the top of his game. At the same time, we also appreciate the predisposition of Real Madrid to formalize this transfer, which we believe is beneficial both for
both clubs and for the footballer himself.”
Despite being just a teenager, Leiva was a regular all season for Algeciras in the third tier of Spanish football, playing 38 times in his first full professional season. He also scored 4 times and added 2 assists, sometimes playing as a forward.
Leiva will be a second signing for Real Madrid B team this summer following the arrival of striker Noel López.
