Former Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral has revealed he left Real Madrid for Getafe this summer because he wants a leading role.
Borja Mayoral said in his first press conference at Getafe: “I was looking for a leading role and I think I’m going to play much more here.
“At Real Madrid I saw myself as a substitute for Benzema. I would have received minutes at Real Madrid but I wanted stability.”
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti wanted to keep Borja Mayoral at the club as back-up striker to Benzema but Borja Mayoral was keen on leaving.
Borja Mayoral left Real Madrid for Getafe in a deal worth €10million.
Ancelotti is now left with only Mariano Diaz as his recognized backup no. 9 for Benzema.
However, It is believed that Ancelotti doesn’t rate Mariano, which is why he intends to use Eden Hazard, Rodrygo or even Asensio as a false 9 when Benzema isn’t playing.
