New Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski sends message to Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has dismissed comparisons been made between him and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

The Pole was effusive in his praise for the Los Blancos hitman and described him as an amazing player.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Robert Lewandowski said: “Karim Benzema is an amazing player, he showed that in the last Champions League season; what he did during the games against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea or Manchester City.

“He’s been 10 or even 12 years in La Liga. He knows this league a lot. Even in the Champions League, he showed that he’s one of the best players, and I think that is very nice to see so many good strikers in La Liga.

“For sure that will be more interesting for the fans. For me, I don’t want to compare with him because for me it will be something new, and I accept this, but for him he’s already here [in Spain] many years.”

Lewandowski will be leading Barcelona’s attack and is expected to come up against Benzema in this season’s El Clasico matches.

Last season, Lewandowski scored 50 goals in 46 games across all competition for Bayern Munich while Benzema scored 44 goals in 46 games for Madrid.
