Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he is surprised Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos didn’t make the Ballon d’Or 30-man shortlist despite having a brilliant season for Real Madrid.
France Football released the shortlist on August 13. Real Madrid superstars Karim Benzema, Thibaut Courtois, Casemiro, Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric and Antonio Rudiger (nominated for his Chelsea performances) all made the list.
Kroos, who played an integral role in helping Real Madrid to La Liga, Champions League and Spanish Super Cup glory last season, surprisingly didn’t make the cut.
Ancelotti said: “It surprises me a bit, because Kroos had a fantastic season.
“But it’s true that it could be a problem if we named all the Real Madrid players, I can understand that. But (Federico) Valverde, (Eder) Militao, (David) Alaba … all deserve to be there.
“All of them had a fantastic season. I’m not talking about winning the Ballon d’Or, but they deserve to be on the list.”
