Gary Lineker admits he remains “baffled” by this “strange” Real Madrid transfer decision. He believes Real Madrid made a huge mistake

Gary Lineker has questioned Real Madrid’s decision to sell Martin Odegaard to Premier League side Arsenal.

The 23-year-old is one of the Premier League’s form players and is already justifying Arsenal’s decision to pay Real Madrid £30million plus £4m in add-ons last summer following a successful loan spell.

Lineker cannot understand why Real Madrid allowed Odegaard to leave in the first place and believes the midfielder could have been a perfect replacement for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in Real Madrid’s midfield.

“Do you know what baffles me a little bit, is how have Real Madrid let him slip away when they’ve got Modric and Kroos, who are really at the end of their careers?” Lineker said on Match of the Day.

“It’s a strange one because he’s so clearly talented, isn’t he?”

Odegaard was named Arsenal’s captain this summer following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette despite only being at the club since joining on an initial loan in January 2021.
