Federico Valverde scored the winner as Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
It was the second time in four days that Valverde was scoring after his brilliant goal in Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Mallorca on Saturday.
Valverde told Uefa: “That was a tough night against a good rival. It was exactly the case that we had to work and work then, eventually, after they had some opportunities we started to create second-half goal chances and when you score one of those it’s a special feeling.”
Valverde, who was named player of the match, also talked about the confidence to score with his left having done that at the weekend against Mallorca: “Confidence is crucial in our sport and when you’ve got it you’ve got more energy, more hunger.
“Obviously when the ball was at my right foot, and no joking now that’s my stronger, I thought about hitting it. But the defender came at me really quickly and I was sure by moving the ball to my left I could trick him and find the net inside the far post.”
