Spanish rivals Barcelona are interested in signing Real Madrid star Marco Asensio as a free agent next summer, according to Mundo Deportivo’s Xavier Munoz.

Asensio’s current Real Madrid contract expires in the summer of 2023 and Barcelona are keen on signing the 26 year old Spanish international as a free agent.

Real Madrid held talks with Asensio over a new contract in the past but his wage demands led to the discussions stalling. Following that, Asensio was linked with an exit all summer long, with clubs like Liverpool, AC Milan and Arsenal being credited with an interest. However, no move materialised.

The Spanish international has struggled for game-time this season under Carlo Ancelotti and looks set to leave Real Madrid next year.
