Catalan journalist Xavier Bosch has claimed Barcelona tried to sign Karim Benzema from Lyon before he joined Real Madrid in 2009.

Barcelona reportedly saw similarities between Benzema and Brazilian great Ronaldo and made a move for the striker in the summer of 2008.

Benzema reportedly turned down Barcelona before joining Real Madrid from Lyon a year later for €35million.

Since joining Real Madrid in 2009, the Benzema has featured in 615 games for the club across competitions, scoring 328 goals and claiming 160 assists.

Benzema has helped Real Madrid five Champions League trophies and four La Liga titles, amongst other honors.
