Carlo Ancelotti explains reason for first La Liga defeat

Real Madrid were beaten for the first time in the La Liga this season, after being stunned by Rayo Vallecano.

Santi Comesana scored the opener just after minutes for the home side.

Madrid found a way back into the game when Marco Asensio went down under a challenge from Fran Garcia in the area and VAR gave a penalty. Luka Modric calmly slotted in the penalty.

Madrid then went ahead when Asensio whipped over a corner which was met by Eder Militao headed past Stole Dimitrievski

Real Madrid surrendered their lead just before half-time, and Oscar Trejo would score a 75th minute penalty to seal the win for Rayo.

Speaking after the game, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti blamed the defeat on tiredness, as Real Madrid failed to match Rayo’s intensity.

He said: “We lacked determination of the rival, lost individual duels, could not get our play going.

“We have played too many games, same as most teams, we’re not as fresh as we were, we lacked the legs today. We faced many difficulties tonight, under every aspect. Our quality wasn’t enough for this game.”
