PSG star Kylian Mbappe was linked with a move to Real Madrid during the summer.

With everything agreed between Madrid and Mbappe, the France international made a surprise move to remain with PSG.

Mbappe has now admitted that president Emmanuel Macron’s call was vital in him remaining at Paris.

He acknowledged this in an interview with Sports Illustrated: “We had several calls. In December, January, February, March…

“Macron called me and said, ‘I know you want to leave, but I want you to know that you are important for France and I would not like you to leave. You have the chance to make history here. Everyone loves you.”

The PSG star admits he could not believe the call from the head of state.

“I said I appreciated it,” Mbappe said. “It’s really crazy. The president calls you and asks you to stay.”
