Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the World Cup, after suffering an injury during training on Saturday evening.

Examinations confirmed a tear in the player’s left thigh, and that means the 34-year-old will no longer feature in the World Cup.

Benzema has now released an emotional message following the confirmation that he won’t feature in the World Cup in Qatar.

Benzem posted on Instagram: “I have never given up in life but tonight I have to think of the team as I have always done. Reason tells me to leave my place to someone who can help our group have a good World Cup campaign.

“Thank you for all your messages of support.”

It’s indeed a heartbreaking moment for Benzema who hasn’t featured at the World Cup since 2014.
