Antonio Rudiger has been lambasted by Liverpool great Dietmar Hamann, following Germany’s defeat to Japan in the World Cup on Wednesday.
Japan’s Takuma Asano was running for the ball down the right side of the Germany half, but Rudiger came across to see to it that the ball went out of play while seemingly making fun of the Japanese, as he ran in an emphasised high-knee gait.
Germany took the lead in the first half of the clash, after Ilkay Gundogan converted from the spot, but two second half goals from Japan saw the game turned in its head, as the Asian country earned their first win over Hansi Flick’s side.
And speaking about Rudiger’s behaviour, Hamann said on Twitter: “Shameful that you even post this. Belittling the opposition has never been in the spirit of the game. There’s only one out the 2 players laughing tonight and it ain’t Rudiger. Unprofessional and arrogant.”
Hamann’s comment was in response to Germany’s national team’s official Twitter account writing on the platform: “Those @ToniRuediger legs.”
