PSV forward Cody Gakpo was one of the stars of the World Cup, as he put in a top showing for the Netherlands until their exit to Argentina in the quarter-final stage.

Coming off a fine season with PSV, Gakpo scored three goals in five matches at the World Cup.

Gakpo has been linked with several top sides since his top performance at the World Cup.

And former PSV Eindhoven attacker, Rene van de Kerkhoff has said that he has strong intel that Real Madrid would want to sign the player in January.

“I have a reliable source in Spain who has told me that Real Madrid wants to sign Cody Gakpo as Karim Benzema’s successor,” Van de Kerkhoff said on De Willy & Rene PSV-podcast.

His twin brother, Willy, who was also on the podcast chipped in:

“What I’ve heard is that their serious interest in Gakpo exists but that PSV wouldn’t sell him for less than €75 million ($79.85 million) in the January transfer window.

“Although that amount wouldn’t be a problem for Madrid,” the Dutch ex-international adds.
