Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Real Madrid are very much interested in signing Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

Fernandez has impressed massively at the World Cup, and has featured in all five of Argentina’s World Cup games so far, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are the two major contenders for Enzo Fernandez, as Real Madrid seek to freshen an ageing midfield that has Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

However, Benfica have slapped a massive €120m release clause into Fernandez’s contract – meaning it would take a monster fee to sign the Argentine.

According to reports, Real Madrid would try to negotiate a transfer fee for Enzo rather than pay the release clause.
