Rodrygo has revealed that Luka Modric offered some words of encouragement to Mohamed Salah, following Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Real Madrid last season.
Liverpool came close to doing the quadruple last term, only to end up losing two important trophies in agonising manners. The Reds lost 1-0 to Madrid to lose out on the Champions League, while Manchester City miraculously came back from being 2-0 down by half-time, to beat Aston Villa 3-2, and win the Premier League title on the last day of the season.
Salah was visibly distraught at the realisation that he’d lost out on the two major trophies after the Champions League defeat to Madrid in Paris, and Modric went to offer some encouragement, Rodrygo has revealed.
“Salah passed by discouraged, and Modric, who was on the other side, greeted him and said ‘All right, all right, next time you can try again’,” Rodrygo told Cortes, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
It wasn’t the first time Madrid would be denying Salah a chance to win the Champions League, after they also denied him at the final of the 2018-2019 season.
Meanwhile, both sides are gearing up to meet next February and March in the round-of-sixteen of this season’s edition of the competition.
