Real Madrid are now top of the La Liga after beating Rayo Vallecano 2-0 away from home.
It was a difficult night at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla, as Madrid dug deep to win it late on.
The game was goalless at half-time and was looking like it will end so. However, a late brace from Karim Benzema sealed a win for the Los Blancos.
In the 83rd minute, Benzema converted calmly from the spot after Javier Sanchez handled the ball in the penalty box. Sergio Leon was issued a red card to make it easier for Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side playing with one more man.
Five minutes afterwards, Benzema would score again to seal a massive win in our first game after the World Cup.
Real Madrid are now top of the table, pending when Barcelona face Espanyol on Saturday.
