Chelsea and Benfica are already in negotiations over the transfer of midfielder, Enzo Fernandez in January 2023.

According to the Daily Mail, the London club have made an offer for Fernandez, and they want to pay his fee in installments, rather than his €120 million buyout clause.

It is also being reported that Fernandez has already informed Benfica of his desire to leave the Portuguese club if they can agree on a fee with Chelsea. He was nonetheless, a part of their clash with Braga on Friday night.

Benfica have insisted they want to keep the 21-year-old, especially considering that they’re still involved in the UEFA Champions League this season, but they also understand that the youngster’s head may have been swayed by the allure of playing in the Premier League.

Chelsea are hopeful they can steal Fernandez ahead of Real Madrid by offering Benfica a fee higher than his buyout clause, and end up paying it in installments because of Financial Fair Play rules.

It’s yet to be seen if Chelsea can beat Real Madrid to the signing of Enzo Fernandez, as the Los Blancos want to either sign Fernandez or Jude Bellingham.
