Carlo Ancelotti explains reason for Real Madrid’s defeat to Villarreal

Real Madrid were beaten 2-1 by Villarreal in a La Liga clash on Saturday.

It was an uninspiring performance by Carlo Ancelotti’s men at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Speaking after the game, Ancelotti blamed his side’s poor defensive showing for the defeat.

“We didn’t play a good game, above all in defence. We did well on the opposite side of the pitch, but we have to be better in our own half,” Carlo Ancelotti said after the match.

“We were too open when sitting in a deep block. They managed to receive the ball between the lines, this has been the problem.”

Ancelotti surprisingly deployed Eder Militao in the right-back position, but the Italian doesn’t believe it was a problem, explaining that Lucas Vazquez was a bit tired.

He stated: “I made this decision because I did not want to use Lucas who played full 90 minutes against Cacereno. He was tired. Militao played well with Brazil at right-back.

“He did well in defence. And in attack, he doesn’t share any blame.”
