Real Madrid were surprisingly beaten by Villarreal in a La Liga clash away at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Saturday.

The Los Blancos lost the game 2-1, and Lucas Vazquez claimed after the game that the team’s planning was one of the reasons why Real Madrid were beaten at the La Ceramica.

Vazquez who seemed unhappy not to start, as Carlo Ancelotti opted to play Eder Militao at right-back, said: “This was an important match because there will be a match between the leaders tomorrow [Atletico v Barca].

“In the end, we could not win because of the circumstances and because of how we approached the game.

“The first 30 minutes were difficult, especially in the build-up. These things happen at times. We will analyze the mistakes and improve.”

Carlo Ancelotti played Eder Militao at right-back and Federico Valverde on the right wing, but the game plan proved ineffective.

Ancelotti however doesn’t believe it was a problem, explaining that Lucas Vazquez was a bit tired.

He stated: “I made this decision because I did not want to use Lucas who played full 90 minutes against Cacereno. He was tired. Militao played well with Brazil at right-back.

“He did well in defence. And in attack, he doesn’t share any blame.”
