Real Madrid reached the final of the Supercopa de Espana after a penalty shootout victory over Valencia in Riyadh.
It was a difficult game for the Los Blancos, and the tie ended 1-1 after regular time and then after extra time.
Karim Benzema’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Samuel Lino.
Real Madrid had a 100 percent penalty shootout, as Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Marco Asensio all scored their kicks. Valencia would however miss two kicks to send Madrid through to the final.
Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Vinicius Junior was to be the fifth taker, but was glad the Brazilian ended up not taking a kick.
Ancelotti said: “The key to winning the shootout was starting with the most experienced and coolest penalty takers.
“Karim [Benzema], [Toni] Kroos, [Luka] Modric…Then [Marco] Asensio, who has a strong shot..Vinicius would have taken the fifth [penalty], but thank God he didn’t.”
