Villarreal coach Quique Setien has claimed that the yellow submarines didn’t deserve their 3-2 home Copa del Rey defeat to Real Madrid on Thursday night.

Villarreal were leading 2-0 at half-time, but Real Madrid turned around the tie in the second-half and ended up 3-2 winners.

Setien said of the game, “We played a great game. We fought hard. We tried to get there, but we couldn’t.

“We could have even scored more goals in the first half, but you can never consider Madrid beaten.

“Nobody likes to lose. I think we could perfectly well have got through the tie. The result is always uncertain. Real Madrid are capable of creating dangerous situations and scoring goals.

“I’m worried about fatigue. I don’t know if we’re going to be able to recover any of the players who are injured. We’ll see what the after-effects of this match will be. These are moments that happen throughout the season and we’ve had to deal with them now. We’ll try to recover physically and compete in the game as usual.”
