Real Madrid have proven to be the new comeback kings in Spain.
Madrid defeated crosstown rivals Atletico 3-1, in a Copa del Rey quarter-final clash at the Santiago Bernabéu on Thursday night.
Former Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata opened the scoring for Atletico 19 minutes into the game.
Real Madrid kept up the pressure for the rest of the game, and got their reward, when second-half substitute Rodrygo scored in the 79th minute to level up the scores.
Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior scored two second-half extra time goals to seal a massive win for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
There are three teams Madrid could face in the semi-finals, as Osasuna, Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao are the other teams left in the competition.
The semi-finals pairings will be decided by a draw on January 30.
Unlike the previous rounds, the semi-finals will be two-legged ties. The first leg is planned for February 7-9 and the second leg for March 1-3.
The Copa del Rey final will be played at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville on May 6.
