Real Madrid defeated Valencia 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu on Thursday night.

One of the talking points of the game was the tackle that could have hurt Vinicius Junior.

Vinicius was on the receiving end of a horror tackle from former Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista

Gabriel was shown a straight red card for the challenge, which came in the 72nd minute of the game, with Valencia already 2-0 down to goals from Marco Asensio and Vinicius.

Speaking after the game, Ancelotti described Gabriel’s challenge as “a moment of frustration, which can happen sometimes in football.”

Thibaut Courtois however, was having none of that, and has called for more protection for Vinicius.

“We have to protect Vini,” Courtois said, speaking post-match.

“He’s very expressive on the pitch, he takes players on and defenders don’t like that.”
