Real Madrid and Barcelona played midweek games, and both sides won their games.

Barcelona played on Wednesday, while Madrid played the following day.

Despite Barca playing their game one day earlier, it is Real Madrid who will play the first kick-off on Sunday: Madrid face Mallorca at 2 pm local time, Barca face Sevilla at 9 pm.

Carlo Ancelotti bemoaned the situation when asked to comment on the controversial scheduling.

He said: “We aren’t happy that we have less than 72 hours of rest. It doesn’t seem fair.

“We will play because we have to. But you need at least 72 hours of rest, at the very least.”
