Real Madrid tells key player to retire

At 37, Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric still plays for club and country.

The Croatian international skippered his country at the World Cup in Qatar last year.

Modric is nearing the end of his contract with Real Madrid, and is yet to get a new contract.

According to a report from German outlet Onefootball, Real Madrid have told Modric he must retire from international duty if he wants to stay with the club.

The report claims that it’s a non-negotiable condition for Modric.

However, Modric who has been a key figure for his country is yet to hang up his boots.

Modric has previously said he will play for his country for as long as they require him and the midfielder has already confirmed to Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic that he will feature at the Nations League finals in the summer.

The veteran midfielder has won 162 caps for Croatia and was integral in their run to the World Cup final in 2018 and their third-place finish at the 2022 tournament.

Do you think Modric should retire from national duties in order to remain a Real Madrid player.
