The victory means Barcelona have gotten 11 points more than the Los Blancos who have played a game less, due to Club World Cup engagement.

Barcelona head coach Xavi has warned his side that they must not relax after beating Villarreal.

According to Xavi, the gap isn’t insurmountable.

Xavi said, “It’s not an insurmountable gap, there are 17 games left. I’m happy, we are on a very good run of results, extraordinary.

“We are solvent, serious and hard-working. These games are tough and it’s another sign that the team is solvent.”
