Speaking before the Champions League clash with Liverpool, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti had said he was pondering whether to try and control the game or play an open game.
He ended up playing an open attacking game, and it nearly cost Real Madrid.
14 minutes into the game, the Los Blancos were already 2-0 down. But the team gave a good comeback and drew the half 2-2, before going on to win 5-2.
Speaking after the game, Ancelotti spoke about his huge gamble and how it eventually paid off.
“We suffered. We can’t start games like that. We do this often,” Carlo Ancelotti said after the game.
“When we managed to get out of Liverpool’s press we grew into the game. We improved defensively too. Our players were very accurate in front of goal.
“Such a historic night. It would’ve been difficult to predict this. It was more of an open game than the final. We gambled on that. We wanted to increase our chances of scoring.
“Rodrygo was very good defensively too.”
