Luka Modric sends message to Liverpool fans after their humbling defeat

Liverpool suffered their largest defeat on home soil in European competition, after a 5-2 loss against Real Madrid at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Liverpool took the lead early in the game, and were 2-0 up after 14 minutes of play.

However, Real Madrid bounced back and ended up 5-2 winners.

One of the key men for Carlo Ancelotti was Luka Modric, as the 37-year-old midfielder dictated play in the middle of the pack.

Modric who had played for Tottenham Hotspur before joining Madrid, was in awe of the reception he got from the Liverpool faithful.

While being subbed off late in the game, Modric was given a standing ovation by the Liverpool fans.

Taking to Twitter after the game, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder thanked those inside the stadium for the incredible recognition: “Thank you Anfield. Special atmosphere. Respect.”
