Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah had given Liverpool a shock 2-0 lead as early as the 14th minute of the tie against Liverpool.

Vinicius scored a first half brace, which proved to be key to the victory.

The Los Blancos would then turn on the style in the second half, having gone into half-time at 2-2, with Eder Militao putting Madrid in front immediately after the restart, before Karim Benzema added two more before full-time.

Speaking after the game, Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger revealed the team’s reaction at 2-0 down.

According to Rudiger, the team still maintained belief nevertheless.

He said: “It’s crazy. I saw during the match that we still believed in it, but to come back like that is just crazy.

“We told ourselves we just needed one goal – and we did that quickly. After that we were back in the game. I’ve never experienced a night like tonight in football.”
