Real Madrid played out a 1-1 draw in the derby clash against Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday.

For this clash, Carlo Ancelotti started a midfield three of Dani Ceballos, Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde, but it didn’t seem to work as planned.

Real Madrid dominated possession, but Atletico had as many dangerous attacks as Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the first half.

The performance improved in the second-half after Luka Modric and Aurelien Tchouameni joined the fray.

Ancelotti believes his starting midfield didn’t live up to expectations.

The Real Madrid manager said after the game: “We thought we would have possession with Kroos, Ceballos and Valverde.

“But we didn’t expect Atletico to pressure us like that.”
