Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Liverpool will not be playing with any sort of caution when they take on Real Madrid for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Reds are 5-2 down against the reigning European champions, and need to win by up to four goals to qualify to the next stage of the competition. Many believe it is something of an uphill task for Liverpool, but Klopp insists his side will give it a go anyway.
“It’s Real Madrid, they are 3-0 up, it’s not something you want for Christmas. But we have nothing to lose,” Klopp said at a press conference ahead of the Madrid game.
“If we can surprise ourselves in a negative way, then we should be able to surprise ourselves in a positive way too!
“It’s difficult because we probably won’t go through to the next leg. In this room, 100% of the people think we have no chance. If I’m the only one who thinks we have a little – I’m fine!
“Even if there’s only a 1% chance I’d like to give it a try.”
