Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has sent his warm appreciation the way of Real Madrid, following their kind gesture after the Champions League clash on Wednesday night.

Karim Benzema’s late strike saw the Reds knocked out of the UEFA Champions League, while the Los Blancos cruised into the quarter finals.

After the game, instead of the usual ‘Hala Madrid’ anthem, Liverpool’s ‘You Never Walk Alone’ was played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, the gesture was a way of honouring the Reds, after they did a similar thing ahead of kick off in the reverse fixture at Anfield three weeks ago.

Before the ball was kicked at Anfield, the legendary Sir Kenny Dalglish laid flowers for former Madrid president, Amancio Amaro, who sadly passed away just before the game started.

And when asked about the gesture from Madrid, Klopp said it was ‘really nice’.

“People told me, my staff told me after the game,” said the German. “It is a really nice gesture.

“We are two heavyweights who meet each other quite frequently in international football. I think it is clear we respect each other a lot.”

It’s nice to see these things in football.
