Real Madrid honoured Liverpool in a unique way, despite losing their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash on Wednesday night.
Karim Benzema was on target again, as Madrid cruised to a 6-2 aggregate win.
But rather celebrate with their own anthem, Madrid played Liverpool’s famous ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ song at the Santiago Bernabeu after the match.
Asked to react to the decision, Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti said: “They honored Amancio in the first leg and it’s a fair gesture from our club towards them.”
Madrid legend, Amancio passed away aged 83 on February 21, the day of the first game between the teams at Anfield.
Ahead of that game, Anfield hero, Sir Kenny Dalglish laid a bouquet of flowers in front of the visiting Real Madrid fans, and a minute’s silence was observed in his honour.
