Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that Real Madrid deserved to go through to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League, as they were the better side over two legs.

Liverpool travelled to the Santiago Bernabeu to face Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 clash on Wednesday night with the hopes of staging a comeback, having lost the initial tie 5-2. However, despite their best efforts, the Reds lost 1-0 again, as the Los Blancos booked a place in the next stage of the competition.

“We couldn’t put a special performance on the pitch tonight,” Klopp told BT Sport after Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Madrid.

“Ali had to make two sensational saves. The right team went through, that’s what we have to admit.

“The game tonight, Madrid was the better team and won the game. In 3 halves of the fixture they were the better team.”
