Real Madrid were beaten by Barcelona in the El Clasico clash on Sunday night.

Madrid lost the game 2-1, despite having taken an early lead.

Marco Asensio had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside late in the second-half, before Franck Kessie scored a stoppage time goal to seal the three points for Barcelona.

Speaking after the game, Carlo Ancelotti blamed the VAR decision.

He said: “We played a good match. We deserved to win and we were winning.

“I still have doubts about the cancelled goal. We gave our best and lost our balance. They scored against us, but that’s not the most important thing.

“About Marco Asensio’s goal, do you think he was offside? We have to accept it but I have my doubts. Nothing is certain.”

Xavi has admitted his surprise that Ancelotti faulted the VAR decision.

He said after the game: “I am surprised with Ancelotti’s comments. It’s a scientific fact [that Marco Asensio was offside], you are either offside or not.

“Plus, I think this wasn’t unfair. We were the better team, we dominated them and played the way we wanted to play.”
