The El Clasico tie on Sunday could have taken a different turn, had it been Marco Asensio’s 81st minute goal wasn’t ruled out for offside.
It was a tight decision, as VAR decided to rule out the goal.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was indeed unhappy with the decision, as Barcelona would score a late goal to win the tie 2-1.
Carvajal has admitted that it’s not up to him to challenge the system.
He said: “In the end we have to dedicate ourselves to playing, trying to do our best and we’re not going to go into whether it’s slightly offside or not, that’s what the referees are for.
“The other day Asensio was considered offside and it ’s because it was called like that. Accept the decision and do not doubt the system at any time.”
Carvajal however believes that the system from the Club World Cup (semi-automatic offside), might be the best solution.
“It seems like a much more reliable system,” the right-back further explained.
“It has been seen in competitions like the Club World Cup. It seems that it is more objective and faster. Anything technology that improves decision-making, fluidity in the game, and makes things more objective, is welcome.”
Am I the only one who saw that Asensio was in a very clear offside position when the ball was first played in, and then he came back to receive the ball and by then was marginally offside? It is the latter that VAR called him out for but if they look back at when the ball was first played in, he was way offside and came back to receive the ball.
