Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is in the final year of his contract with the club.
Ceballos is yet to sign a new deal, and clubs are already looking out for the midfielder, who has been in fine form for Real Madrid this second half of the season.
According to reports, Ceballos has turned down a move to Premier League side Aston Villa after Unai Emery’s new club attempted to bring the midfielder back to England.
The 26-year-old played under Emery at Arsenal during the 2019-2020 campaign, featuring 37 times in that particular season and scoring twice for the Gunners as they finished eighth.
For now, Ceballos has insisted that his future is dependent on Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old has however insisted that he wants to be judged by his football.
“I just want to play football and be judged by my level on the pitch. I don’t want a new contract if I don’t deserve it – or go to another club if I don’t deserve it either. I want to enjoy what I do,” Dani Ceballos has told Jorge Valdano.
“The last three months? I want to play them, and when I’m done, to meet with my agent, my family and value what’s best for me. But I don’t want the best contract. I want the people, the board and the club to decide if I am good enough for them.
“Now, the most important thing is to focus on my everyday work, taking advantage of whatever game time I receive and showing people that I want to continue playing for Real Madrid.
“Modric has to be my example. I have been good for two months, but Luka and Toni [Kroos] have been at the highest level for 10 or 12 years.”
