Chelsea make brutal Graham Potter decision 10 days before Champions League meeting with Real Madrid

Chelsea have finally sacked Graham Potter following their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Bruno Saltor (member of Potter’s staff) has been named as an interim head coach, but no permanent replacement has been confirmed yet, with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique among the early favourites to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid face the Blues in the Champions League on April 12 (first leg) and April 18 (second leg).

A statement from Chelsea FC reads: “Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition.

“In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.

“Bruno Saltor will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach.”
