Did Carlo Ancelotti get his line-up wrong against Manchester City?

Real Madrid looked solid and the more dangerous side when Manchester City visited the Santiago Bernabéu just last week.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side looked a shadow of themselves at the Etihad Stadium a week later – suffering a disastrous 4-0 defeat.

The defence was all over the place, and many believed Antonio Rudiger should have started the game.

Rudiger had a good game in the first leg, but Ancelotti chose to go with Eder Militao for the second leg.

The team’s pressing and structure was poor on the night, and Real Madrid just couldn’t get themselves to compete against Man City’s rampaging side.

Aside Thibaut Courtois, every other Real Madrid player failed to turn up.

The midfield couldn’t link with the attack, and when the forward players had the ball, they lost it almost immediately.

In the words of Ancelotti, when the team wins, he’s a genius, but when they lose it’s his fault.

It was a poor night at the Etihad Stadium, and Ancelotti’s game plan never worked all night long.

For Real Madrid, it should be back to the drawing board.
