Antonio Rudiger was a beast in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final clash against Manchester City, and ensured that Man City striker Erling Haaland was kept mute all game.

Carlo Ancelotti surprisingly benched the German for the second leg.

Real Madrid’s defending was poor against City, and eventually lost the tie 4-0.

According to Relevo, Rudiger was disappointed by Carlo Ancelotti’s decision not to start him in the second leg against Manchester City.

Also, Rudiger’s teammates were as well shocked at the decision.

Rüdiger was mainly disappointed for two reasons, the report claims.

First, Ancelotti had publicly admitted that Rudiger was the best player in the first leg and would start the second leg.

Secondly, Rudiger believed he absolutely nullified Erling Haaland in that game and deserved another shot.

Ancelotti’s decision to bench Rudiger also came as a shocker to some Real Madrid players, who expected he’d retain his place.

Rudiger showed his displeasure with hand gestures and facial expressions when he was told the news eight hours before the game. Teammates had to calm him down as Rudiger is known to be an explosive personality, the report says.
