After lots of controversies since Sunday, Real Madrid returned to winning ways with a 2-1 home win over Rayo Vallecano.

Karim Benzema scored a first-half goal to put Madrid in front.

With the game nearing its end, former Real Madrid player Raul de Tomas scored in the 84th minute to give Real Madrid a late scare.

Rodrygo, who seemed to be the most exciting player on the pitch restored the lead five minutes later.

In celebration of his goal, Rodrygo raised a clenched fist in a clear show of solidarity for compatriot  Vinicius Jr in light of the horrendous racial abuse he suffered at the weekend in Valencia.

Vinicius was at the Santiago Bernabéu, seated in the executive box beside club president Florentino Perez.

The 22-year-old seems to be nursing a muscle injury, and was also given a break by the club after the draining weekend he had at the Mestalla.
