Ancelotti explains why he didn’t give Hazard a farewell opportunity

Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid as a big money signing, but four years later, the 32-year-old is leaving Real Madrid in a far worse state.

Hazard’s contract has been terminated, and he’d no longer be a Real Madrid player.

While the likes of departing stars Marco Asensio and Karim were given a befitting farewell, Hazard didn’t get an opportunity to play in the final game of the season.

It was expected that Hazard will get his final minutes against Bilbao on Sunday, but Carlo Ancelotti thought otherwise, as Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz were both left on the bench, though even Lucas Vazquez made a late cameo.

When asked about the decision at his post-match press conference, Carlo Ancelotti rather gave a bizarre explanation.

He said: “We had only 5 substitutions and they didn’t ask to enter the pitch.

“But I want to highlight Hazard and Mariano because their behaviour has been exemplar even if they did not play a lot. Very professional.”
